Looked like a “gimmick” at first, but I decided to give the ELF Speed Safety a try on an AR9 pistol build. All I can say is WOW! It’s awesome. This is a “cross-bolt” type safety, as found on a Remington shotgun. Installation is 5 min. The kit comes with the push button safety and a new safety detent plunger. You loosen the grip from the lower and drop out the old AR safety detent. Then slide the old AR safety switch out and slide the ELF safety switch in with the slot for the detent facing down. Next, place the new detent plunger into the lower, align the detent spring and reinstall the grip. You’re done! No adjustments necessary, no fitting, no fiddling around. A firm push on the button activates or deactivates the new safety. There is an audible click and tactile feedback. When in the “FIRE” position, a RED ring is visible around the outside of the safety switch. No change of grip is necessary to activate/deactivate the safety. It couldn’t be any simpler or more effective. Only reason I gave it 5 stars is because there is no 10*! Very easy for my students of all ages/genders to understand & operate. (This evaluation is based on semi-auto installation.)
