Purchased this bag for flying armed, wanted an indiscreet way to carry my duty weapon without having to sit on a holster for 4+ hours. The has plenty of room for flight essentials like your tablet, books, snacks, as well as a discreet, easy to access (after some practice) compartment for your handgun, as well as spare mags etc. The supplied holster attached to the loop backing securely, and works on firearms with or without an attached light. Would definitely recommend for discreet carry or a go-bag if you’re into that sort of thing.

One sentence review, first. This is a comfortable, good looking, well designed and constructed, versatile, sturdy EDC pack with great organization capabilities. If you want an overview of all the pack features, there are a few really well done videos on Youtube. Some, that reveal features that others don’t. My review will be more about its use. I’ve been using a book-bag style Jansport backpack (the kind from highschool/college) or what amounted to a visually outdoor-ized book-bag posing as a daypack from Eddie Bauer for an EDC pack for the last 15 years and boy, is this a step up. The previously mentioned bags served me pretty well for quite some time, but I have a feeling this Vertx is going to be by my side for quite a bit longer. I love that I can get the features this has in a pack that looks so low profile and non descript. It really is a great “grey man” bag. It’s sturdy, has a TON of thought towards organization and is pretty versatile. I’ve been using it for about a month now and it goes everywhere with me. For the size of the pack, it’s got a decent amount of room, but it’s less able to be “stuffed” like a more lightweight pack because the main compartment keeps its shape better than a “bookbag”. If you get out of control, you can fill this thing up, but one thing I like about it is that by being thicker, sturdier and having its own shape, it does limit you more than more flimsy bags so you can’t throw everything in the world inside. At the same time, the front compartment IS pleated, so if you need to throw a little more in there, it can expand a little. Calling this an 18 hour pack is pretty reasonable, I’d say. The good news is that anyone who thinks they need more space has the Gamut Plus as an option. While, I do come close to running out of space in this bag on rare occasions, (like when I want an extra layer or other clothing) I’m still glad I picked this one. It’s not too heavy when empty, it’s comfortable, it looks really nice, it organizes my stuff well, you can’t feel a full-sized handgun when you do use the concealed draw frame and it’s ready for an armor panel if you would choose to insert one. It’s discreet if you want to use the “special features” of the pack OR you could ignore that aspect altogether and still get a lot of good use out of it, anyway. I can’t think of anything I’d change about it so far. This thing rocks and I’m really pleased I scored one.
